In Thailand, a drug trafficker’s icy mother (a potty mouthed Kristin Scott Thomas, spouting pure filth) sends him on a mission to avenge his older brother, who was killed for beating an underage prostitute to death. The follow up to Drive, Only God Forgives is very much worthy of reappraisal. Striking in its use of colour and reviled on release for its violence, the film continued the relationship with Gosling, who is rather enjoyably beaten to a pulp by Vithaya Pansringarm’s taciturn cop.
