This distinctive noir moves from the traditional nocturnal urban streets to the bright, snowy countryside when a brutalised city cop (Ryan) is sent to aid rural sheriffs in hunting a child killer. There he encounters a sympathetic blind woman. Excellent direction coaxes superlative performances from Ryan and Lupino, set to a stunning Bernard Herrmann score.
