Pablo Larraín’s No follows Tony Manero and Post Mortem to complete the director’s powerful trilogy of films set during the rule of Chilean dictator Pinochet.
Pablo Larraín skilfully evokes the period feel of late 1980s Chile in this historical drama which stars Gael García Bernal as Rene Saavedra a talented young advertising executive who is tasked by Pinochet’s opposition with heading up a campaign for a ‘no’ vote in the country’s 1988 referendum. With immense pressure to succeed, and under scrutiny from the authorities, Rene and his team come up with offbeat ideas for the campaign.
Winner of the Director’s Fortnight at Cannes Film Festival 2012.
