Adapted by Kureishi from his short story, MY SON THE FANATIC is a contemporary love story set against a comic clash of generations and cultures. Pakistani cabbie Parvez (Puri) has settled happily in a northern English city where he enjoys all things English – especially the local prostitute (Griffiths). Then his son becomes an Islamic fundamentalist, bent on ridding the community of decadent influences.
