Desplechin’s kind-of prequel to 1996’s My Sex Life…Or How I Got Into An Argument follows Paul Dédalus (Amalric) as he returns from a posting in Tajikistan and looks back over the years of his youth. A film of great wit and insight that recalls the nouvelle vague’s exploration of young love, it’s beautifully performed by a young cast and elegantly photographed by Irina Lubtchansky.
