Artist-filmmaker Julian Schnabel’s (The Diving Bell and the ButterflyMiral is a passionate account of four women’s experiences of life in East Jerusalem during the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As the three generations of women grow up and grow old, we witness the developing state of Israel and its impact on East Jerusalem’s non-Jewish residents. Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire BAFTA nominated actress) is Miral, a willful, intelligent young woman whose desire for freedom in her homeland compels her to take dangerous action. She is guided from childhood to adult life by her father and Hind Husseini, a surrogate mother to 2000 orphaned girls who firmly believes that education and discussion is the route to peace.
