McLibel: Two Worlds Collide

Directed by Fanny Armstrong

In 1994, Helen Steel and Dave Morris (combined annual income of £10,000) were sued for libel by McDonald’s (annual income £30 billion) for distributing a Greenpeace leaflet What’s Wrong With McDonalds. Following the longest trail in English history, the McLibel defendants lost and were told to pay £60,000 in damages, plus McDonald’s £10 million in legal costs. (The Pair were forced to defend themselves.) This documentary offers the inside story of how a single father and a part-time bar worker took on the McDonald’s Corperation and were transformed from anonymous campaigners into unlikely global heroes- and lost six years of their lives.
