Poet and author Rosario Castellanos (1925-1974), part of the Generation of 1950, is one of Mexico’s most important literary voices. The film recounts two time periods in her life, as an introverted university student finding her feminist voice, and as a grown woman at the peak of her career. But her tumultuous love story with Ricardo Guerra reveals her fragility and contradictory desires, when traditional norms pit family life against female creativity. Castellanos’ life and work are a revelation waiting to be discovered for those unfamiliar with this talented and visionary spirit.
