A sumptuous epic about George Sand, directed by one of France’s foremost woman directors. Binoche radiates as the aristocratic wife writing under the pen name George Sand who leaves her husband to escape the limitations put upon women by French society. Even in Parisian literary circles her behaviour shocked, especially when she took up with the younger Romantic poet and playwright Alfred de Musset. The pair continue their affair in a journey across Europe as they seek pleasure and inspiration. With lush period production design and beautiful cinematography, the film is set in Venice and Paris.
