Leaving to Remain

Directed by Mira Erdevicki

This film is not included in the HOME film pass.

With the UK’s hardening immigration policy in the background, director Mira Erdevički follows the lives of three Roma: Petr Torák, Denisa Gannon and Ondrej Oláh. Settled in the UK over 20 years ago, the trio still feel attached to their native Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

As the UK goes into lockdown, they film their lives throughout the Covid pandemic and the aftermath of Brexit to form this quietly radical and heart-warming documentary about identity and finding home.

As part of Gypsy, Romani, Traveller History Month, the screening on 1 June will be introduced by artist and writer Kristina Bartosova and will be followed by a post-screening panel discussion including Sally Carr MBE, Advisor to the Traveller Movement, Miley Lawrence, Advisor to the Traveller Movement (Connecting Communities) and Marian Guga, Director of European and Roma Organisation Manchester.

The screening on 1 June is a pay-what-you-can event
