This is a rare chance to see a legendary and controversial documentary, often cited as a landmark in ‘Third Cinema’. Far from presenting its various subjects – each reflecting on Argentine history and politics – in a simplistic manner, its directors utilise a variety of visual and aural styles, dividing the film into three sections: ‘Neocolonialism and Violence’, ‘Act for Liberation’ and ‘Violence and Liberation’. In Argentina, due to its perceived alignment with the ideas of the Peronist opposition, the film had to be initially released surreptitiously through community and activist groups.
