King Lear

Directed by Jean-Luc Godard

Godard left Cannes in 1985 with a contract for a Shakespeare adaptation, drawn up on a napkin, to be delivered to Hollywood in a year’s time. What he delivered was a maddening yet fascinating weave of celebrity cameos and literary false starts, underpinned by his own outrageous turn as ‘Professor Pluggy’.
