Filmed on a shoestring budget in Watt, a poor, predominantly black neighbourhood in L.A.,KILLER OF SHEEP focuses on the day-to-day hardships faced by slaughterhouse worker Stan and his buddies. Aided in no small way by its gritty black and white cinematography, eclectic soundtrack and near-documentary style, Burnett’s legendary film pulls off the coup of being at once enigmatic, highly original and wholly accessible. Following a restoration by UCLA Film and Television Archive and extensive music rights clearance which took 6 years, KILLER OF SHEEP is finally given the theatrical release it deserves.
‘The least-known great modern movie from the United States’.
