Kill Bill Vol. 1

Quentin Tarantino is back – with a vengeance – in this blood-spattered, globe-trotting revenge film. Following five years in a coma, The Bride (Thurman) awakens, vowing retribution upon the former ‘colleagues’ who put her there, especially gang leader Bill (Kung Fu’s Carradine). The ultimate movie geek has fashioned his latest in chapters, each in the appropriate exploitation genre, especially Chop-Socky and Yakuza. And the film references don’t stop there, with appearances from martial arts masters Yuen Woo-Ping and Sonny Chiba, plus a knowing sartorial nod to Bruce Lee. Add the requisite pumping soundtrack, graphic violence, frenetic camerawork and editing and Tarantino delivers his promised ‘one for the fans’. Look out for Volume 2 on 27 Feb 2004.
