Family Film/ Kensuke’s Kingdom

Directed by Neil Boyle & Kirk Henry

Kensuke’s Kingdom tells the epic adventure of Michael, a young boy who sets off with his family on a sailing trip of a lifetime. But excitement soon turns to terror when a violent storm erupts and Michael and his dog Stella are swept overboard, washing up on a remote island where they struggle to survive.

Michael discovers he is not alone when he encounters a mysterious man called Kensuke – a former sailor with the Japanese army who has lived on the island for decades after being washed ashore during World War Two. Kensuke lives in close harmony with nature on his island paradise and is distrustful of the outside world. His fears are proved right when a group of dangerous poachers appear on the horizon, forcing Michael to step up and become a guardian of the island’s wildlife.

A thrilling adventure story with a poignant ecological message, Kensuke’s Kingdom is based on the book by acclaimed children’s novelist Michael Morpugo.
