Envisaged as a sequel of sorts to On the Town and directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen in their last collaboration for MGM, It’s Always Fair Weather follows the adventures of three GIs after they leave the army in 1945 and then re-acquaints us with them when they reunite 10 years later. This is a more downbeat Hollywood musical than one might expect, making it one of the most interesting entries in MGM’s 1950s catalogue.
Screening as part of BFI Musicals! The Greatest Show on Screen, a UK-wide film season supported by National Lottery, BFI Film Audience Network and ICO.
