Irrational Man

Directed by Woody Allen

At the small-town college campus Braylin, philosophy professor Abe Lucas (Joaquin Phoenix) finds himself in an existential crisis but he discovers a new purpose in life when he enters into a relationship with Jill Pollard (Emma Stone), one of his students. The latest work from Woody Allen continues his late career renaissance. A philosophical thriller that borrows from Kierkegaard and Heidegger in its analysis of the ‘terror of freedom’, it’s a film, in essence, about losing one’s moral compass. Impeccably shot by Darius Khondji and sharply written, it also finds room for a terrific supporting turn from Parker Posey.
