Forty years after Deren’s death, Kudlacek documents the life of America’s defining avant-garde filmmaker whose stunning shorts have influenced artists and pop stars alike. Melding clips with oral history, IN THE MIRROR includes previously unseen archive footage that reveals both Deren’s extraordinary life and the art world she frequented. The screening will be introduced by Prof. Laura Mulvey, of Birkbeck College, London. Laura Mulvey is one of Britain’s best-known film theorists and a filmmaker herself.
