Import Export tells parallel stories of Olga, a nurse from Ukraine who journeys to well-off Austria in search of a better life, and Paul, an aggressive young man in need of work who makes a journey in the opposite direction. Depicting two kindred lonely spirits whose lives nearly overlap but never connect, Ulrich Seidl offers a confrontational insight into the forces of global capitalism which posit human lives, bodies and emotions as mere incidentals amongst other currencies.
