Hammett

Directed by Wim Wenders

Wenders’ first American movie is no conventional biopic of Dashiel Hammett, but a stunningly achieved fiction about the art and mystique of creating fiction, partly based on the novel by Joe Gorres.  It is as much an homage to bygone Hollywood as to Hammett and the ‘roman noir’ he pioneered.
