Screening until Thu 6 Sep The latest film from the director of AI NO CORRIDA (In The Realm of the Senses) focuses on the ritualistic Shinsen-gumi, a band of brave young samurai guards sworn to suppress anti-Shogunate, revolutionary movements in mid 19th century Kyoto. Two young men have recently joined. Tashiro is enchanted by his fellow initiate, the beautiful Sozaburo, and rumours of a homosexual relationship abound. The young men must constantly prove themselves to the leaders (including ‘Beat’ Takeshi in an unusual role) and adhere to the strict rules (Gohatto). But Sozaburo’s desirability causes intrigue, deceit and a mysterious murder.
