Girlfight

Directed by Karyn Kusama

Executive produced by John Sayles, this fiery American indie marks writer-director Kusuma’s feature début. A fierce rites of passage tale set in Brooklyn’s housing projects, GIRLFIGHT is the story of Diana (Rodriguez in her acting début), a violent Latina teen at war with herself and the world around her. No stranger to fighting, Diana discovers boxing and learns to channel her anger into her sport, finding confidence, a purpose in life, and growing success in the ring. Boxing films are commonplace, but those featuring women boxers are extremely rare. As issues around women in sport once again make headlines, the release of this Cannes and Sundance prize-winner couldn’t be more timely.
