Ghosts

Directed by Nick Broomfield

Broomfield foregoes his trademark documentary format for docudrama to reveal the systematic exploitation of migrant workers behind the tragic deaths of 23 Chinese cockle-pickers in Morecambe Bay, February 2004. The film follows the dangerous path of single mother Ai Qin from Fujian Province to England where her every move and most of her money are controlled by Snakehead gangs and bent employment agencies.

Beyond a representation of the events at Morecambe, GHOSTS incorporates the experiences of its previously illegal immigrant cast to powerfully illustrate the true cost of our supermarket food.
