Co-scripted by Van Sant, Damon, and Affleck, GERRY marks a return to the director’s indie roots following an extended foray into Hollywood. And you couldn’t get more confrontationally experimental than this minimalist two-hander. Damon and Affleck play two friends, both named Gerry, who pull off the highway for a hike but soon lose their way. Long, one-take tracking shots trace the pair against the arid beauty of the desert landscape.
