Makhmalbaf’s visually stunning fable could have easily been called “The Colour of Paradise” with its sensuous, vibrant hues and its epic tale. The film follows the story woven into a gabbeh rug by its nomadic creator. A young woman is prevented from marrying her determined suitor by her father, who conjures up an increasingly lame series of excuses.
