Forty Shades of Blue tells the story of a young Russian woman living in Memphis with a much older musician, and the personal awakening she experiences in the wake of her unfortunate affair with his estranged son. Sachs’s second feature following The Delta, this is a potent examination of love in bad faith and a remarkable portrait of the Memphis music scene in which Sachs was raised.
