Lloyd Bacon and Busby Berkeley joined forces once again to deliver another back-stage musical, their third released during 1933. James Cagney plays a Broadway director forced into making musical prologues to be performed before film screenings in what was his first full-blown dancing role. Alongside Cagney, Joan Blondell played his lovelorn secretary and Ruby Keeler and Dick Powell appeared together for the third time in a Warner Bros musical.

Screening as part of BFI Musicals! The Greatest Show on Screen, a UK-wide film season supported by National Lottery, BFI Film Audience Network and ICO.
