The latest from Catalan director Gay (KRÁMPACK, EN LA CIUDAD) is a beautifully muted, intimate exploration of an unexpected relationship. Alex (Fernández) is a successful, married filmmaker who’s stalled on his new script. Seeking inspiration and distance from family distractions, he goes to stay with old pal Santi (Cámara) in the stunning Catalan Pyrenees. At dinner with mutual friend Judith (Pla), Alex is introduced to her guest Mónica (Germán), a violinist. The two grow close. Both are committed to their existing relationships but experience the bittersweet ache of mutual attraction. Excellent performances abound, expressed through pauses and gestures as well as dialogue. In FICCIÓ the emotional power lies equally in words unspoken and caresses denied.
