Exiles in Lotusland

Directed by Ilan Saragosti

Poignant documentary following two homeless teenagers as they drift across Canada.

Melo and Ti-Criss are two drop outs from school and society who have nothing except each other and the comfort of drugs. The couple have travelled from Quebec to Vancouver to escape their problems and find adventure. Home to Melo and Ti-Criss, a talented artist is a mixture of hostels and the streets. Due to unhappy and unstable childhoods, Melo and Ti-Criss are damaged goods; they cannot live in the constraints of society yet they are not equipped with the maturity to handle life alone.

Like many people their age in Canada, they are caught in a vicious circle and this viciousness is what leads to the film’s tragic ending. Ilan Saragosti’s documentary is very poignant and at times painful to watch. However he captures the vulnerability of these two youth and shows how society has let them down.
