Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Directed by Michel Gondry

A touching and imaginative romantic comedy, as only the mastermind of director Michel Gondry can do. With an Oscar-winning script from Charlie Kaufman and an all-star cast, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind tells the story of the tumultuous relationship between Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet) as they both take drastic measures to remove each other from their memories. But as Joel’s memories progressively begin to disappear, he rediscovers their earlier passion and battles against the procedure in order to keep the memories of their love. Uniquely funny and unpredictably tender.

Reviews

“If films about coping with memory loss and/or reverse-order storytelling now constitute a mini-genre, then Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is arguably the best of the lot. It is certainly the most emotionally resonant” Todd McCarthy, Variety

“[…] as wonderful as it is weird. […] this remarkable movie is in possession of a serious mind and a rare, true heart.” Colin Kennedy, Empire

“Don’t expect anything standard-issue from this uniquely funny, unpredictably tender and unapologetically twisted romance. Jim Carrey has never done anything this deeply felt. The brilliant screenwriter Charlie Kaufman plumbs new emotional depths. And visionary director Michel Gondry reveals a bracing maturity in his commitment to character.” Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
