Damnation

Directed by Béla Tarr

In a small Hungarian town lives Karrer, a listless and brooding man who has almost completely withdrawn from the world. His only social lifeline comes in the form of the Titanic – a bar where he spends every evening, harbouring an obsession with the singer who performs there.

Damnation is another classic from Hungarian master Béla Tarr. Immaculately photographed and composed, it focuses on one of Tarr’s regular themes: the eternal conflict between barbarism and civilisation.
