Chinese Film Forum UK presents/ No.1 Chung Ying Street

Directed by Derek Chiu

Director Derek Chiu’s 18th film as a director takes place in the border zone between Hong Kong and the People’s Republic of China, and is an emotionally charged piece of work. The action of No. 1 Chung Ying Street is split into two parts, the first takes place in 1967 against the back-drop of anti-British resistance, the second unfolds fifty years later and again follows the residents attempts to resist the growing influence of outside forces.

No. 1 Chung Ying Street won the Grand Prix for Best Picture at the Osaka Asian Film Festival in 2018.

This screening is supported by the Confucius Institute at The University of Manchester.
