Chiko

Directed by Özgür Yildirim

Chiko, a Turkish migrant residing in Germany has aspirations beyond his current existence as a small-time drug dealer. He and his best friend, Tibet, think that money, power and respect is all that counts for two young guys of Turkish background in the suburban ghettos of Hamburg. A chance meeting with a well connected gangster offers an opportunity to fulfill his ambitions, but at a high price. Acclaimed as the “Turkish-German Scarface“, Chiko is a riveting, uncompromising thriller. Tightly scripted and passionately performed, young director Özgür Yildirim delivers a fierce directorial debut.

Reviews

“It’s hard to take your eyes off Moschitto’s bulldog-like antihero – with his dangerous lips and furtive power plays, he makes Vincent Cassel in Mesrine look like Dale Winton’s camper twin. ****” Tim Robey, The Telegraph

“Impressive directorial skills […] are on offer in Turkish-German writer-director Özgür Yildirim’s occasionally violent debut feature from from Fatih Akin’s production company Corazón. Denis Moschitto makes for a charismatic, watchable and surprisingly sympathetic presence as Chiko” Wally Hammond, Time Out (London)
