Lieutenant Kurokawa returns from the Sino-Japanese war a celebrated man. Horrifically injured in the conflict he has lost both his arms and legs leaving him to be cared for by his dutiful and devoted wife, but their traumatic experiences change them both and she begins to resent her ‘War God’ husband. Actor Shinobu Terajima was awarded the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 2010 Berlin Film Festival for her performance.

Both screenings will include a short introduction from Andy Willis (Reader in Film Studies at the University of Salford).
