Introduction to CALLE 54 Latin jazz aficionado and DJ Pedro Gonzalez of the Instituto Cervantes in Manchester will give a brief introduction to Latin jazz, tracing the historical hot spots with the aid of a selection of essential audio clips. Renowned director Fernando Trueba’s love for and knowledge of Latin jazz shine through in every frame of this lively documentary tribute. The director and his cinematographer record a series of performances by some of the genre’s greatest artists, including Gato Barbieri, Chucho Valdés, and Tito Puente (in the last onscreen appearance before his death).
