Calamity Jane

Directed by David Butler

A much-loved Hollywood musical, Doris Day’s Calamity Jane offers audiences one of the most memorable women of the west ever to grace the silver screen.

Deadwood, South Dakota, is largely the abode of men, but frontier scout Calamity Jane is as hard-riding, boastful and handy with a gun as any of them. When she boasts she can bring renowned singer Adelaide Adams to perform at the local saloon, the male townsfolk call her bluff. Calamity sets off on a wild adventure to Chicago, hoping to prove her worth, and to prove her doubters wrong.

Packed with memorable songs such as The Deadwood Stage, The Windy City and The Black Hills of Dakota, and showing just enough respect for the codes and conventions of the genre, Calamity Jane proves that the western isn’t just a man’s world.
