Best in Show

Directed by Christopher Guest

Co-written and directed by original Spinal Tap member Guest, this is an hilarious mockumentary about the perilous world of professional dog shows and the unusual folk who frequent this highly popular activity. Even before the fascinating Ms. Woodhouse, the preoccupation with parading pooches was ripe for parody. Skewering stereotypes, the film reveals owners who resemble their dogs, a terrier lover with two left feet, a Weimaraner wrangler and duelling show hosts. But Guest goes beyond the caricatures to gradually reveal the heart and soul beneath the Siegfried & Roy posturing, with a result both vicious and tender.
