The début feature of a director whose excellent shorts have sparkled in many previous ¡Viva! festivals.
Nominated for 7 Goyas, BAJO LAS ESTRELLAS is the story of a selfish jazz musician (San Juan) whose return to his rural Navarra roots proves to be his redemption. His brother Lalo (Villagrán) is a newly recovering alcoholic who has found happiness in his sculptures and his fiancée Nines (Suarez). When Benny meets Nines’ young, ignored and introverted daughter, Ainara, the pair form an unlikely, fast friendship.
As in his shorts, Viscarret laces his drama with comedy and an edgy quirkiness, with the script and performances providing the heartbeat, set to a Goya-nominated score.
