ANU/ Hammam

Directed by Louise Lowe

Due to technical problems, this screening has been cancelled.

One of Ireland’s most innovative multidisciplinary artists, ANU (Angel Meadow, 2014, and On Corporation Street, 2016), in partnership with the Abbey Theatre, excavates the final moments of the Battle of Dublin in this new show.

Inviting audiences into the epicentre of the Civil War and a nation teetering on the brink of peace, this blistering new work squares up to the foundation stones of the Irish state. In an entirely re-imagined Peacock Theatre in the heart of Dublin, audiences Hammam traverses the depths of the destroyed buildings of O’Connell Street to explore one of the most contentious elements of Ireland’s difficult past and its deeply enduring legacy in the present.

Hammam brings ANU’s marking of the Irish Decade of Centenaries to a close after a staggering 22 projects since 2013.

Co-produced between ANU Productions and The Abbey Theatre. Funded by the Arts Council of Ireland; supported by Dublin City Council and part of Decade of Centenaries Programme 2012-2023.
