An Invention for Destruction

Directed by Karel Zeman

Zeman has been referred to as the Czech Meliès and this imaginative feature demonstrates why. Blending cartoon, puppets, and live action with a style modelled on the steel engravings of Jules Verne’s original, this charming film recounts the tale of a mad scientist and his dangerous invention, complete with submarines, balloons and a giant octopus.
