Amour

Directed by Michael Haneke

Michael Haneke’s stunning 2012 Cannes Film Festival Palme d’or winner is a powerful and deeply moving film, which details the tender and loving relationship between two elderly musicians. Anne and Georges’ happy marriage is tested when Anne suffers a series of devastating strokes and Georges insists on caring for her at home, a decision their daughter (played by the wonderful Isabelle Huppert) fails to understand. But the couple continue with their life, creating an increasingly private world, and their long-standing devotion to each other is unshakeable. Haneke’s film is a masterwork which boasts a heartrending portrayal of Anne’s physical and mental decline from Emmanuelle Riva.
