Eleven-year-old Mary has an insatiable passion for cooking, and dreams of becoming a great chef. Her grandmother Emer, with whom she has a very special relationship, encourages her to make this dream come true. But when Emer falls ill, Mary must face up to the prospect of losing her beloved grandmother and fulfilling her ambitions alone.
The arrival of a mysterious, magical stranger from her family’s past teaches Mary that our relationship with our loved ones runs deeper than she could ever imagine, and helps prepare her and her mother to say goodbye to Emer.
Based on the novel by Roddy Doyle, A Greyhound of a Girl is delicate coming-of-age story, which celebrates Irish culture and the powerful bonds between four generations of women.
