A City Seen/ Sister Act + intro

Directed by Emile Ardolino

Deloris is a lounge singer performing at a low-rent club owned by her gangster boyfriend, Vince. After inadvertently witnessing Vince murder an informant, Deloris is in put in the line of fire herself, and is placed in witness protection in the last place anyone would ever look for her – a convent.

Masquerading as a nun named Sister Mary Clarence, Deloris shakes up the established order of the convent as she turns the nuns’ tone-deaf choir into a soulful chorus of swingin’ singin’ sisters. But when the group earns rave reviews, her sudden celebrity jeopardises her hidden identity.

Sister Act has been selected by Gorton Women’s Group as part of our flagship community project, HOME from HOME. Inspired by the upcoming release of Thelma – a raucous comedy about an unlikely 93-year-old vigilante – the group have chosen Sister Act as another feel-good celebration of defiant, unapologetic and inspirational women.

HOME from HOME is a community-led project, working across Gorton, Moss Side, Hulme and Wythenshawe. HOME has partnered with several regular groups meeting across these areas, working with artists to explore and create together.
