This summer you can discover the filmmakers of the future with Playback.

This video exhibition showcases over 200 short films made by young artist filmmakers aged 16-24. These remarkable and award-winning short films made by emerging talent capture today’s world: from underground zine cultures, to urban communities and digital lives. On Playback’s touchscreen, you can choose what to watch and curate your own selection on screen.

A selection of the films were made and produced in the North, where young people were given the support and funding to create a short film. Now, Playback gives you the chance to see the people, places and talent of your local region in a venue near you.

Playback travels across the length and breadth of the country in some of England’s major galleries, cinemas and arts venues until March 2018. Playback is funded by Arts Council England and is a joint initiative with Channel 4 Random Acts. Many of the short films are broadcast by Channel 4 on television or online as part of Random Acts’ First Acts series.
