Wallpapers resonate with ideas of home. They are the ubiquitous, blurry backdrop to our memories, but rarely central to our recollections.
Unexpectedly confronted with a pattern from our past, the experience can be visceral, something akin to smell – we return ‘there’ through a tangible connection to locational happenings, a place, a time, an atmosphere.
Recollecting a personal experience of discovery, and informed by a collection of wallpaper and ephemera retrieved from London Road Fire Station in Manchester, this exhibition explores the interplay between artwork and artefact; pattern and resonance.
