‘HOME is where the ART is’ an exhibition co-created by two of our ‘Home from HOME’ women's groups in Hulme and Gorton. This exhibition celebrates local women, sharing their stories, their strength and their resilience.
Experience the empowerment as two creative women’s collectives welcome you with open arms into an immersive and interactive expression of their communities within HOME’s theatre. An enchanting, cosy and affectionate staging of the women’s artistic processes over the course of a year.
Step into a warm embrace and be greeted by The Giant Woman, tell her your secrets, and spare a leaf for her branches. Weave through portraits of local majestic women, listen to their tales and soak in their wisdom, voiced and recorded for you to listen. Walk down our Street and peer at our Houses, see just how much is held within them and see their stories brought to life through film. Take a moment to take part, have a chat, leave behind an artwork, spend time with us, you’re very welcome here.
A Participant from Home from HOME Hulme Women’s Group says “This group is so beautiful, even if I’m tired, I attend. I feel supported and I leave my worries at the door and have space and time for me.”
Louise Harney, Head of Creative Development at HOME said “We’re so proud of all the courageous and creative women who take part in Home from HOME. They’ve built an inclusive network of support, and co-created work that authentically shares their stories and celebrates the phenomenal women they are. It is a priority for HOME to develop opportunities for people to experience art and culture within their community, building friendships and creatively amplifying voices. A huge thank you to our Home from HOME women’s groups and the wonderful artists who make this happen.”
