The HOME Young Artists summon you to the Blobby Realms. This exhibition is a debut group show by Young People aged 14 – 17 participating in HOME’s brand-new Young Artists Studio programme.
This multi-artwork showcase offers you a snapshot of this collectives’ miscellaneous creative exploration over the course of a year, incubated at HOME.
The Young Artists present their distinct artistic styles and sometimes conflicting approaches to artmaking in harmonious tension. The exhibition builds upon the Young Artists’ ongoing lines of enquiry and learning and encases a forming collective identity. Informed by their Manifesto and embodying the energy of their studio working style, Blobby Realms rejects the homogenous and embraces deviation, contemplation and banter.
Through film, crochet, sculpture, photography, animation, painting, printmaking, drawing and projection the Young Artists give you the opportunity to look at the world through the eyes of young people.
This first cohort of young people participating in HOME’s brand-new programme represent: Bolton, Urmston, Littleborough, Chorlton, Heywood, Trafford, Sale, Timperley, Rochdale, Prestwich, Macclesfield, Radcliffe, Oldham, Central Manchester, and Stockport.
One Young Artist said: “My favourite thing about being part of HOME Young Artists Studio is getting to meet artists and people that like all different kinds of art. When I come here it’s a great way to be with other creative people, people who are inclusive and progressive.”
…another participant said: “Being a part of the Young Artist Studio has really been a good experience for me as it allowed me to develop not only my art skills but my social skills too. If you’re creative and want to get out of your comfort zone to become better, this studio is definitely for you.”
Lucy Follon, Creative Development Practitioner for Visual Art at HOME, said: ““I am grateful to the Young Artists, who have shaped this programme as much as the programme has shaped them. In ways that often seem beyond the reach of many adults, the Young Artists hold their differences of opinion as valuable, approach the unknown with curiosity, share their ideas boldly, and accept their mistakes with courage. I believe their work represents something universally relatable: we are all a bit ‘blobby,’ navigating our own ‘realms’.”
HOME would like to congratulate the first cohort of HOME Young Artists: Ava, Alfie, Dael, Elena, Elliot, Emily, Fernanda, Jaxx, Katie, Lewis, Lori, Luca, Marcia, Nancy, Poppy, Roman, Ruby, Saima, Scarlett and Tilly.
