¡Viva! Fiestas

For this year’s ¡Viva! we’re introducing a special festival tent delivering live music, performance, workshops, dance and brand new commissions in Tony Wilson Place. For the three weekends spanning the duration of the festival we have an inspiring and varied programme of entertainment responding to and reflecting on the themes of the festival. The tent is to be a lively hub of Latin inspired activity. We will have Palax Spanish craft beers for sale, and a stellar line-up of local, national and international talent for you to enjoy.

In the spirit of La Transición we have everything from radical street art to salsa, from flamenco to queer cabaret. We guarantee there’ll be something to get you moving your feet or making change!

Highlights include Spanish indie rockers Rural Zombies on the opening night, as well as some inspired total stage takeovers. One night will see folk-hop and barrelhouse-pop collective Honeyfeet takeover the stage in all their various festival-esque musical formations. The A Queer Revue! team bring their wild quarterly LGBT+ cabaret event from Band on the Wall for a cabaret fiesta. And to run alongside the opening of our La Movida exhibition we will see feminist punk band Ill deliver sonic disobedience and local label Traffic ‘Raveover’ the fiesta stage with a mystical rave and full moon shamanic psytrance experience. And families can head down and share traditional cultures of the indigenous peoples of South America through music, song and storytelling with El Condor.

So whether you want to relax with a beer to some salsa beats, glam up or rave in full Latin style just join in the party!
