Looking at the work of Polish post-war subversive filmmakers such as Has, Lenica and Borowczyk, who were influenced by the pre-war Polish avant-garde, this talk examines the alternative view of Polish history and culture they provide and asks whether they can be brought into the frame of a ‘national cinema’ – or if they challenge the very idea of such a thing.
