In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Taiwan filmmakers turned to tough, uncompromising subjects. The resulting films ranged from realist reflections on the darker side of society to rip-roaring action-oriented exploitation movies. This season brings together a range of these films offering a snapshot of the Taiwan cinema of the period.
Curated by Andy Willis, Season Curator and Senior Visiting Curator: Film at HOME.
This season is part of Taiwan Films at HOME 2023, taking place across the year. With thanks to the Taipei Representative Office in the UK and the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan (R.O.C.).
